As planned, Viettel will add around 10,000 4G base transceiver stations (BTS) with the 2100MHz band in 15 provinces and cities, which have a high demand for data uses, with the approval of the Ministry of Information and Communications. The BTS installation will likely be completed in the second quarter of this year.

Viettel will install additional 10,000 4G BTSs |
The group is now removing its 2G subscribers out of the 1800MHz frequency, which will be used for the 4G service.
Together with the addition of the new frequency band for 4G services, Viettel will put into effect a number of other supporting solutions, such as installation of over 1,000 new BTSs to promote coverage in crowded areas such as pedestrian streets, stadiums, or festivals.
According to General Director of Viettel Networks Corporation Dao Xuan Vu, the group has the largest number of 4G subscribers in Vietnam and the figure is still increasing.
The usage of the new frequency bands will contribute to significantly increasing the speed of its 4G services, he added. On the other hand, the group will become the only mobile network operator in Vietnam deploying 4G services on both 1800MHz and 2100MHz frequency bands, he noted.
Mr. Dao said that when the upgrading process is completed, Viettel’s high-speed 4G network capacity will increase by 25% to 50% in comparison with the current one and the average speed of 4G will be from 1.3 to 1.5 times faster.
Currently, Viettel operates the largest telecom infrastructure network in Vietnam with 130,000 BTSs across the country. 50,000 among them are utilized for the 4G service.
