Over 300 artisans to join Vietnam Ethnic Groups’ Culture Day
PANO - More than 300 artisans and representatives of Vietnam’s 54 ethnic groups from 34 provinces will take part in Vietnam Ethnic Groups’ Culture Day, organized by the Department of Ethnic Minority Culture under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, from April 17 to 19 at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism in Hanoi.
The event will marks the Vietnam Ethnic Groups’ Culture Day (April 19) and the 80th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s 1946 letter to the Congress of Southern Ethnic Minorities. It will be held in line with a 2008 Prime Minister’s decision designating April 19 as the annual Vietnam Ethnic Groups’ Culture Day and the Politburo’s Resolution No.80 on developing Vietnamese culture.

The program aims to reaffirm the government’s commitment to ethnic cultural affairs and highlight the role of artisans and ethnic communities in preserving and promoting traditional cultural values, while raising public awareness and contributing to the development of a modern Vietnamese culture rooted in national identity.
The event will promote distinctive local cultural values through heritage performances and traditional rituals, contributing to the preservation of intangible cultural heritage and tourism development. It will provide an opportunity for ethnic communities to meet, exchange experiences and strengthen solidarity, while honoring and promoting traditional cultural values and encouraging the development of a healthy cultural life. The program will honor outstanding individuals, including village elders, community leaders and artisans, for their contributions to preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of Vietnam’s ethnic groups.
The program will also feature community exchanges among ethnic groups, heritage performances and a re-enactment of the Ok Om Bok Festival, or the Khmer Moon Worship Festival, from Vinh Long province. It will showcase intangible cultural heritage through traditional crafts, such as making com dep (flattened young rice), coconut leaf weaving and painting on coconut shells.
Meanwhile, cultural activities will also highlight traditions of the Chu Ru people in Lam Dong, the Thai people in Thanh Hoa, and the Tay people in Quang Ninh.
