The patient is transported onto the helicopter. |
The patient, Yadao Mark Jonh Lhoi Refe, born in 2000 and a Philippine national, was a crew-member aboard the BILLY JIM, a Cyprus-flagged vessel. While the vessel was sailing about 200 nautical miles from Nha Trang, he developed pneumonia and severe respiratory failure. His condition deteriorated seriously, preventing him from continuing the voyage and requiring urgent hospital treatment.
In response, the Southern Viet Nam Helicopter Company quickly developed a flight plan, arranged refueling and coordinated with relevant forces to ensure the mission was conducted safely and effectively.

The helicopter lands and the patient is taken to the hospital for treatment. |
At about 2 p.m. on October 4, an EC225 helicopter, registration number VN-8619, carrying the flight crew, technical personnel and a doctor, took off from Vung Tau Airport. After refueling at Cam Ranh, it continued toward the vessel at sea.
Despite challenging weather conditions, the helicopter approached and landed directly on the BILLY JIM's helipad. The crew then quickly received the patient and transported him back to shore. At 7:05 p.m., the helicopter landed safely at Vung Tau Airport, where the patient was handed over to medical personnel for transportation to a hospital for emergency treatment.
The successful mission demonstrated the Southern Viet Nam Helicopter Company's high sense of responsibility, professional expertise and capability to conduct specialized flights and medical evacuations at sea, while further strengthening its reputation and image among domestic and international partners and customers.
