In response to International Children’s Day (June 1) and the action month for children, localities across the country have organized a number of activities for children, including giving presents and awarding scholarships.
*** The Hanoi Municipal Committee for Population, Family and Children and the Vietnam Insurance Corporation (Bao Viet) presented gifts, each worth VND100,000 to 100 children in difficult circumstances living in Hoang Mai district and the May 19 Affectionate House in Ba Dinh district.
The City’s Fund in Support of Children donated VND1 million to children at the May 19 Affectionate House. Earlier, the fund cooperated with Manulife Insurance Company to present gifts to 500 pupils at Le Chi Primary School in Gia Lam district. The activity is part of the programme “Manulife for the future of children” launched in Hanoi last year.
*** On June 1, Hoan Kiem and Hai Ba Trung districts held meetings for children to welcome summer and present gifts to poor children. Hoang Mai, Long Bien, Thanh Tri and Dong Da districts also organized a number of activities for children in response to the Action Month for Children.
*** The Ho Chi Minh City’s Labour and Culture Palace organised a sports and culture festival on May 31 for more than 800 disabled and blind children from 21 schools for disabled pupils in HCM City, Tien Giang, Tra Vinh, Dong Nai, Ba Ria-Vung Tau and An Giang.
The Vietnam Children Support Fund has encouraged businesses to donate more than 2,000 gifts (worth VND100,000 each) to children with special difficulties in some provinces and cities. It coordinated with Australian organisation “Outreach” to present 50 wheelchairs to disabled children in six provinces of Ha Nam, Tuyen Quang, Thai Binh, Ha Tay, Tay Ninh and Binh Phuoc. From June 1-20, through the fund, the Vietnam Insurance Corporation (Bao Viet) will provide children across the country with 900,000 gifts worth VND90 million.
*** The Da Nang City Party Committee, People’s Committee and Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in coordination with the East Asian College, the union of friendship associations and businesses on May 31 held a festival and granted gifts and scholarships to children.
*** On May 15, localities in Central coastal Khanh Hoa province launched an action month for children under the theme “Poor Children-Our Concern” with a wide range of activities. At the launch ceremony, the provincial Children Support Fund presented 30 bikes to poor children. Dien Khanh district also gave its poor children 20 bikes.
*** To mark International Children’s Day (June 1), the district and communal children support funds provided gifts to all their children. The Cam Ranh People’s Committee has presented nearly 4,000 gifts and organised recreational activities for children. Ninh Hoa District encouraged organisations and individuals to support children with difficulties. Dien Khanh and Khanh Vinh districts provided disabled children with free medical check-ups, orthopedic surgery and wheelchairs.
*** On June 1, Khanh Hoa provincial Committee for Population, Family and Children held an exchange with nearly 100 outstanding poor children. On the occasion, several social organisations presented gifts to children, for example, the Manulife Insurance Company provided 200 gifts to poor pupils in Ninh Hoa district and the Asian Technology Institute presented 30 bikes to children being brought up in affectionate houses.
*** In Nghe An province, the Nghe An provincial Fund in Support of Children has cooperated with the Ho Chi Minh City Association of Supporting handicapped children to provide free surgery for 100 handicapped children in Tan Ky, Anh Son and Do Luong districts.
*** Can Tho City is building and multiplying many models of children clubs, such as street children clubs, orphanages, and centers for poor children.
*** To mark International Children’s Day, the Thua Thien-Hue provincial Committee for Population, Family and Children has met and presented gifts to 700 children in difficult circumstances.
*** Central Quang Tri provincial Committee for Population, Family and Children presented 120 scholarships, each worth VND500,000 to poor pupils who excel in study and 2,000 gifts to mountainous children. The provincial Healthcare Department held eye check-up for all children and provided free eye surgery for 130 of them.
*** An exchange with children in difficult circumstances was held at the Vietnam-Czech Republic Cultural Friendship Palace in Hai Phong city on May 31, attracting nearly 1,000 poor children from the city. The Hai Phong City People’s Committee presented gifts to 15 children villages and orphanages. The World Vision in Vietnam donated wheelchairs to 15 handicapped children. The city’s fund in support of children presented 15 scholarships, each worth VND500,000 to excellent pupils. At the exchange, the organizing board received more than VND200 million from nearly 30 individuals and organization to support poor children and children in difficult circumstances.
