The 13th Hanoi People's Council on July 10 began its ninth session in which the highlights will be a review of the capital city's performance in the first half and tasks to be done until the end of the year.
The session saw the presence of National Deputy Chairman Truong Quang Duoc, who delivered a speech asking the municipal people council to continuously better its operation to serve citizens.
In the first six months, Hanoi posted a GDP growth rate of 11.2 percent, a record for the last several years. Foreign direct investment in the capital city reached 930 million USD.
At the opening session, the municipal authorities introduced a package of solutions aimed at fulfilling the city's socio-economic development in the second half.
The administrative reform and the fight against corruption and wastefulness remain the focus, in addition to initiatives in investment, cultural and social affairs, security and social orders.
High on the agenda of the session, which will last until July 13, will also be discussions on the personnel of municipal people's committee and on mechanisms and policies to spur the city's socio-economic growth when the country became an member of the World Trade Organisation.
