General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee and State President To Lam presents the First-Class Labor Order to Ha Noi University of Science and Technology. |
Over 70 years of construction and development, HUST has become a prestigious university in engineering and technology, not only in Viet Nam but also internationally. During the 1965-1972 period, nearly 3,000 staff members, lecturers, and students of the university put aside their studies and joined the battlefield. Nine of them were honored with the title of Hero of the People’s Armed Forces. The university's Monument of Lecturers and Students Who Joined the Army has become a symbol reminding later generations of patriotism and their responsibility to serve the country.

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee and State President To Lam tours HUST’s Hall of fame. |
In his remarks, the General Secretary and State President praised the university’s heroic traditions and major achievements, emphasizing the pivotal role of higher education in training highly qualified human resources, developing talent, advancing scientific research and technological innovation, and mastering core and strategic technologies.
He expressed his belief that, with its proud traditions, dedicated faculty and researchers, and solid foundations, HUST has the capacity to advance further and make greater contributions to the country.
He called for HUST to be developed into an outstanding research university capable of undertaking major national missions and reaching a new position through clearly targeted programs, a strong workforce, and concentrated resources. The goal of placing HUST among Asia's top 100-150 universities by 2035, he noted, must be supported by the quality of education and research, academic reputation, and contributions to the country.
To achieve this goal, HUST should build strong research groups, centers of excellence, and shared laboratories, while creating an environment in which scientists can confidently pursue valuable ideas and mentor the next generation. The university's interdisciplinary strengths should be brought into full play so that it can undertake major tasks in industry, transport, energy, and infrastructure.
Regarding talent development, General Secretary and State President To Lam emphasized the need to identify and nurture talent from an early stage and link education with research and production. Greater attention should be paid to basic sciences, systems thinking, and practical training. HUST should train engineers capable of mastering design and testing and upholding professional responsibility, as well as experts capable of leading major programs.
In the era of artificial intelligence, students and researchers should also be equipped with innovative thinking, autonomy, independence, verification skills, and academic integrity, he said.
The university was urged to focus research on mastering technologies and solving major national challenges. It should identify the right priority areas, clearly determine the capabilities to be developed, the products to be created, and the partners needed to carry out the work.
HUST should strengthen its design and manufacturing capabilities, help enterprises improve production and participate more deeply in supply chains, and identify appropriate development directions in the semiconductor sector. It should also focus on practical needs in energy, transport, urban development, health care, the environment, and disaster response.
The General Secretary and State President stressed that HUST should pro-actively establish connections and develop research programs of significant scale, while providing worthy working conditions and attractive career opportunities. These efforts would help turn HUST into a hub for Vietnamese intellectual talent from around the world and international experts, attracting talented people to contribute to national development.
He also called on the Government, Party commissions, ministries, sectors, and localities to provide resources for HUST's development, particularly to build its second campus in Hung Yen province into a modern innovation complex.
For HUST's faculty members, scientists, students, and alumni, the General Secretary and State President expressed his hope that teachers and scientists would maintain their passion for research, persevere with valuable projects, and mentor succeeding generations. He encouraged students and doctoral candidates to nurture great aspirations, study seriously, train diligently, and be ready to undertake difficult tasks when the country needs them. He also called on generations of alumni to remain connected with their alma mater, share experience, mobilize resources, and support innovative ideas.
He expressed his belief that, building on its 70-year tradition and the intellect, mettle, and determination of generations of teachers and students, HUST would achieve further accomplishments, become an outstanding research university with international standing, and make worthy contributions to the cause of national construction and defense.
For his part, Prof. Le Anh Tuan, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of HUST, expressed his appreciation for the attention paid by Party and State leaders to the university's development. He affirmed the university's determination to absorb and concretize the development orientations into practical action programs with clear resources and road maps.
HUST is also determined to complete a modern governance model based on data, with a strong emphasis on accountability and substantive decentralization, toward the goal of becoming an elite research university.
