Vietnam and Cambodia to coordinate in search for martyrs’ remains
PANO - The 22nd meeting of the Specialized Committees of the Governments of Vietnam and Cambodia took place on October 24 in Ho Chi Minh City to discuss the search and collection of remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and advisers who laid down their lives in Cambodia during wartime.
The meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong, Head of the Vietnamese Government’s Specialized Committee, and Senior Minister Gen. Pol Saroeun, Head of the Cambodian Government’s Specialized Committee.
Reportedly, in the 2022-2023 dry season, Vietnamese teams found and gathered the remains of 640 martyrs.

Speaking at the meeting, Gen. Luong underscored that the success of the meeting would contribute to deepening the good bilateral neighborliness, traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries. Both sides would continue their close coordination in this field for better outcomes.

Concluding the meeting, both sides signed the minutes, which will serve as the basis for implementing coordination activities in the coming time.
On this occasion, the Vietnamese Government’s Specialized Committee handed over the Friendship Order and Friendship Medal of the State President, and Certificates of Merit of the Prime Minister and the Minister of National Defense to Cambodian collectives and individuals who have made important contribution to the work in the 2013-2020 period.
