Special flight brings hope to martyrs’ relatives
PANO - On October 5 at the Can Tho International Airport, over 15,000 martyrs’ remains samples from Can Tho, An Giang, Dong Thap, Ca Mau, and Vinh Long were solemnly loaded onto a CASA-C295 military transport aircraft of Brigade 918 under the Air Defense - Air Force Service for a flight to Ha Noi for DNA testing.
On that special flight were 4,762 samples from An Giang province, carrying the hope of identifying unknown martyrs and fulfilling the expectations of numerous families.
The transportation process was jointly carried out by the Military Region 9 Command, the Air Defense - Air Force Service, and the Party committees and authorities of the five localities. Placed in specialized boxes draped with national flags, the samples were safely transported to Gia Lam Military Airport in Ha Noi.
At Gia Lam Military Airport, Lieutenant General Tran Ngoc Quyen, Political Commissar of the Air Defense - Air Force Service, chaired a handover ceremony for the martyrs’ remains samples. The event was also attended by Major General Huynh Van Ngon, Deputy Political Commissar and Head of the Military Region 9 Steering Committee for the search, collection, and identification of martyrs’ remains.
Subsequently, functional forces handed over the samples to the Military Forensic Institute of the Ministry of National Defense, the Institute of Criminal Sciences of the Ministry of Public Security, and the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology for DNA testing. The transportation and handover processes were strictly implemented, ensuring solemnity, safety, and timeliness.
