The event was chaired by Senior Colonel Ha Van Dung, Deputy Political Commissar of the Son La provincial Military Command and Standing Deputy Head of the provincial Steering Committee for Search, Collection, Repatriation, and Identification of Fallen Soldiers' remains (Steering Committee 515 in short).

According to the delivered report at the event, since 2013, the provincial Steering Committee 515 has advised the provincial Party Committee and People's Committee to promulgate plans on searching, collecting, and verifying remains of martyrs by 2030 and the following years.

Over the past time, party committees and leaderships at all levels have thoroughly grasped and well implemented higher levels’ documents and instructions; effectively conducted information dissemination on the mass media; mobilized agencies, people, the Vietnam Veterans’ Association, support associations for martyrs' families and their relatives to contribute information about the fallen soldiers and their burial places; contacted other units and localities across the country to collect more information related to fallen soldiers and their burial places; worked with agencies and units in the whole military to collect information, conduct surveys, and build map of burial locations.

From 2013 to 2023, the Son La provincial Military Command and the Standing Agency of the provincial Steering Committee 515 advised the Steering Committee to issue a decision to mobilize 5,289 officers and soldiers to participate in searching, collecting, and reburying the remains of martyrs; call on 239 witnesses to provide information about the martyrs' burial places. Thanks to that, 39 martyrs' graves were found, and martyrs’ remains were collected and reburied in local war cemeteries or handed over to their families.

During the years, the provincial Steering Committee has reviewed and completed the list and profiles of 3,515 soldiers who laid down their lives in the resistance wars and Fatherland protection combat in the Northern border. 

In the coming time, the agency will strengthen dissemination to raise the awareness of party committees, authorities, and people of search, collection, and verification of fallen soldiers in Son La province.
