Speaking at the event, held on the occasion of the 71st Wounded Soldiers’ and Martyrs’ Day, Deputy Chairman of the Binh Phuoc People’s Committee Nguyen Tien Dung affirmed that locals have taken various concrete acts to show their gratitude to those who sacrificed their lives to national independence and freedom. The official also stressed that the search for remains of the martyrs in the battlefields and their burial in the homeland have always enjoyed great attention from local authorities.

The Wounded Soldiers’ and Martyrs’ Day is a special chance for the entire country to commemorate millions of martyrs and wounded soldiers who sacrificed their lives and health for peace.

In 1947, just two years after President Ho Chi Minh delivered the declaration of independence of Vietnam, the first decree on preferential policies for wounded and fallen soldiers was issued.

The same year, July 27 was designated as the national wounded soldiers’ day, which was later renamed the Wounded Soldiers’ and Martyrs’ Day, to call on the entire community to support wounded soldiers’ and martyrs’ families in acknowledgement of their contributions to the nation.
