Vietnam, Laos continue to search and repatriate remains of volunteer soldiers
PANO – The Vietnam-Laos Inter-Governmental Committee on Special Missions will continue to cooperate and instruct the search and repatriation of remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who sacrificed their lives in Laos during previous wars.
This was stated by the Vietnamese head delegate, Senior Lieutenant General Le Chiem, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Deputy-Minister of National Defense, at the 23rd meeting of the committee with their Lao counterpart in Ho Chi Minh City on June 18.
At the meeting, the committee reviewed their activities and results, including the ongoing construction of a monument of Vietnam-Laos solidarity in Xaysomboun province. Accordingly, in the dry season of 2017-2018, search and repatriation teams managed to repatriate 231 sets of remains of Vietnamese martyrs.
General Le Chiem stressed that, the search and repatriation efforts would continue until no more information on burial places of Vietnamese soldiers is available.
He also tasked the Vietnamese defense attaché office in Laos to cooperate closely with the authorities of Xaysomboun province to solemnly inaugurate the monument when construction is completed.
