The bomb was spotted on August 17 in a landslide area near Na Yen 2 Bridge in Xom village, Na Tau commune, Dien Bien Phu city.
Right after receiving news from local people, the municipal Military Command sent troops to the site to seal off the area, plant signs of dangerous area, and guard the area to prevent people and cattle from getting close to the site suspected of having bombs.
On verification, the MK117 bomb was rusted with intact detonator, weighing about 360kg. It was dropped on the Dien Bien Phu battlefield by the French colonialists in the 1950s.
The command’s cadres and soldiers teamed with local militia force to remove the bomb to a safe area for detonation.
The whole detonation process was conducted in line with regulations, ensuring absolute safety of people and equipment.
