Early in the morning, 65-year-old Dinh Thi Dop, a Ba Na ethnic minority woman in Ko Tu village, Chu A commune, Pleiku city, excitedly cleaned her house and prepared chairs and drinks to welcome local leaders, officers, and soldiers of Regiment 38 under Division 2, and her relatives and neighbors, to celebrate her new home. Local authorities gave financial support, while troops of Regiment 38 contributed labor to build the house. Covering a total area of over 70 square meters, the sturdy, spacious house includes two bedrooms, a living room, and a kitchen.

According to Dop, she suffers from heart valve disease and is unable to work, and the family’s income relies mainly on her husband, who is now over 60 and works as a hired laborer. For over 10 years, the couple lived in a deteriorating 20-square-meter house that leaked and was at constant risk of collapse during storms and heavy rains. “We never imagined we would live in such a clean and solid house like this. I’m so grateful to the Party, the State, authorities at all levels, and especially soldiers of Division 2, the beloved Uncle Ho’s soldiers,” Dop emotionally said.
Sharing the same joy of having a new, solid, and spacious house as Dop, Nguyen Quang Vinh, a resident of Village 1, Bien Ho commune, Pleiku city, highlighted the significance of the program of eliminating makeshift and dilapidated houses. “It not only helps the poor and the vulnerable have a chance to improve their lives but also demonstrates the Party, the State’s care, and the affection of Uncle Ho’s soldiers for the people,” said Vinh.
Political Commissar of Division 2 Senior Colonel Le Sy Hung said that considering eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses a key political task in 2025, the division’s Party Committee and Chain-of-Command have led and directed agencies and units to closely coordinate with local authorities to deploy forces to eradicate temporary and rundown houses for the people in a prompt, effective, and economical manner. To date, the unit has completed 26 houses, all meeting the “three solid” standards (solid foundation, walls and frame, and roof), bringing happiness and stability to the residents.
Comrade Phan Minh Duc, Party Secretary of Bien Ho commune, affirmed that with the support from the provincial and municipal leadership, departments, agencies, and organizations, and the officers and soldiers of Division 2, the commune has achieved the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses for the people. This is an important foundation for building an advanced new-style rural commune and gradually improving the quality of life for locals.
