Leaders of the Ministry of Public Security, Vietnam Electricity and Dien Bien as well as contractors participated in the meeting.
The project to repair and build homes for poor families in Nam Po district was initiated by the Ministry of Public Security and funded with VND 30 billion by Vietnam Electricity.
Nam Po is a mountainous district with 8 out of the total 15 communes bordering Laos. It is home to more than 54,100 people of 8 ethnic groups. The number of poor and near-poor households mounts to 6,560 or 63% of the total.

Realizing the situation, the Public Security Central Party Committee called on benefactors to fund for the project to repair and build homes for poor local families. Of the benefactors, Vietnam Electricity mainly funded for the project to repair and build homes for more than 600 poor families, helping them overcome their housing difficulties and stabilize their lives and contributing to consolidating the all-people’s defense and security postures in the border area.
Under Plan 1484/KH-UBND issued by the Dien Bien provincial People’s Committee on May 26, 2020, the Dien Bien provincial Police Department, the Dien Bien provincial Military Command, the Dien Bien provincial Border Guard Command, Defense-Economic Group 379 and the Nam Po district People’s Committee were tasked to implement the project.
After more than two months of implementation, 589 new homes have been built and 24 others have been repaired.
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Director of the North Electricity Corporation Le Minh Tuan thanked project managers and entrepreneurs for their great efforts in overcoming harsh weather conditions and difficult terrains to complete the project on time.
Meanwhile, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Dien Bien provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Dien Bien provincial People’s Council Lo Van Muon highly appreciated the initiative of the Ministry of Public Security on the building of homes for local people in need, saying that the project holds political and humane meaning, helping poor local people settle down their lives, strive to develop their household economy and escape poverty.
At the event, a representative of the Ministry of Public Security presented certificates of merit to 16 individuals and organizations for their great efforts in realizing the project while leaders of the Dien Bien provincial People’s Committee and Vietnam Electricity awarded 27 individuals and organizations for their large donations to the project.
