Early in the morning every day, a lot of people gather in the arrowroot noodle manufacturing plant of the Construction Company. “Today, the company provides 20 tons of tuber to 52 households in the three villages of Cheng, But Vien, and Ma Lai Pun of Huong Phung commune,” said the Chief of Transport - Irrigation Team Major Tran Huu Hai.

“The success of growing arrowroot plants has enabled many families in Cheng village to repair houses, buy motorbikes and livestock. After being advised by the staff of the Construction Company, our family decided to reclaim more land to plant 0.5ha of arrowroot. Also, the company helped us enrich the land, supported us with fertilizers and guided us with planting techniques,” Ho Chin, a Cheng’s villager, shared after receiving 750kg of tubers.
In 2010, the Construction Company decided to pilot growing arrowroot plant after carefully examining the weather, climate, and soil conditions in Xa Ry village, Huong Phung commune. Over time, the arrowroot plant grows well and proves to be suitable with the natural conditions there. The company has supported the locals in improving soil conditions, choosing tubers and fertilizers, acquiring planting techniques and purchasing their products. As a result, many Van Kieu households in Huong Phung commune have had stable jobs and higher income.
According to Director of the Construction Company Colonel Le Ke Phat, “to purchase products from all households, we have built the arrowroot processing factory with a closed and modern production line. With the annual purchasing volume of more than 300 tons of fresh tubers in Huong Phung commune, the factory processed over 2.5 tons of arrowroot noodles per crop.”
“This model has created jobs and stable income for local people, tightening the military-people solidarity and brightening up the image of Uncle’s Ho soldiers in the new period,” said Secretary of the Party Committee of Huong Phung Commune Ho Van Khun.
