Over the past time, relevant units of the Ministry of National Defense (MND) have synchronously and decisively carried out assigned tasks under the directives of the Prime Minister, the MND and General Staff’s leadership.
In addition, the Department of Operations, the Vietnam Border Guard, the Navy, and the Vietnam Coast Guard have continued to send personnel to participate in IUU fishing inspections at localities and on key maritime routes.
The MND has maintained nearly 50 ships on duty in different maritime regions and deployed three additional groups of ships and two seaplanes for IUU fishing patrol and surveillance around the clock.
Addressing the event, Gen. Dao praised involved units and their members for the efforts and achievements in task performance from the 40th to the 46th weeks.
To support the European Commission’s inspection mission and strive to have the E.C.’s “yellow card” warning against Vietnam’s seafood exports removed, Gen. Dao asked functional agencies under the MND, the General Staff and involved units to continue close coordination with localities, strengthen control measures, and consider increasing patrol ships.
He affirmed the military’s commitment that all fishing vessels entering and leaving ports will be strictly and transparently controlled.
He also asked for reviewing maritime duty deployment, and prioritizing forces and vehicles for key routes.
