Military doctors save soldier with acute appendicitis
PANO – The medical team of Military Hospital 354 of the General Department of Logistics on Sinh Ton Dong Island of the Truong Sa Archipelago has successfully performed an operation on a patient with acute appendicitis at the island’s infirmary.
Earlier on January 3, soldier Nguyen Tien Duong, 20, from Brigade 146 of Naval Region 4 experienced critical pain in his abdomen and was taken to Sinh Ton Dong infirmary. Doctor Vu Cao Ngoc diagnosed that Duong had acute appendicitis and needed an urgent surgery.
With the approval of leaders of Military Hospital 354, a four-member surgical team immediately performed the operation under the professional instruction of Senior Colonel Ta Duy Dung, the hospital’s Deputy-Director, and doctors Nguyen Van Chau and Nguyen Quoc Khanh through a telemedicine system.
Following the successful operation, the patient is now recovering and will resume his normal work in a week.
According to Senior Colonel Ta Duy Dung, this is the first appendectomy that has been conducted through the telemedicine system at Military Hospital 354.
