The participants were introduced to cases when Vietnamese trawlers encroached upon other countries’ waters, preventive measures, penalties imposed on those illegally fishing in foreign countries’ waters; actions to prevent and fight against violations of national security, as well as individuals’ and groups’ acts of sending trawlers to fish in foreign countries’ waters.
The meeting also provides basic knowledge of Vietnam’s national sovereignty over the seas and islands and several legal maritime documents of Vietnam and regional countries.
After the information drive, local fishermen with a better understanding of Vietnam’s Law of the Sea and international law would hopefully raise their awareness of law observance and avoid violating foreign countries’ waters for illegal fishing.
