Over the past years, programs such as “Officers and soldiers paving the way to school for children,” “Paving the way to school for children,” and the “Border posts’ adopted children” model have provided meaningful assistance to hundreds of children. These initiatives not only cover basic needs but also offer guidance, encouragement, and long-term support to them.

Senior Colonel Tran Thanh Binh, Deputy Political Commissar of the Lai Chau provincial Military Command, explained that the projects were born out of both necessity and compassion. “We understood the hardship faced by students in remote, border, and ethnic minority areas. The command worked with the provincial Department of Education and Training to launch programs that help disadvantaged children excel academically. Units identified students most in need and mobilized resources through officers’ contributions, as well as support from organizations, philanthropists, and businesses,” he said.

The results have been striking. Since 2022, 230 students in difficult circumstances have received regular support under the “Officers and soldiers paving the way to school for children” program. Nine children have been taken in as “Border posts’ adopted children,” living with and cared for by border guard units, while another 58 students are being sponsored through the “Paving the way to school for children” initiative.

Beyond direct sponsorship, the provincial military command and its affiliated units have donated hundreds of gifts, worth more than VND 300 million in total to outstanding students, including both the children of officers and those from poor families. More than 50 bicycles have also been presented to disadvantaged students, making the long journey to school more manageable.

During the opening of the 2025-2026 school year, the provincial military command worked with the provincial Department of Education and Training to hand over nearly VND 250 million from the “Officers and soldiers paving the way to school for children” program to disadvantaged ethnic minority students. At the same time, border posts and other military units awarded hundreds of scholarships under the “Border posts’ adopted children” model.

Through these meaningful and practical activities, the programs and initiatives have spread compassion and support, motivating disadvantaged students to pursue their education and strive for success. At the same time, these initiatives have strengthened the bond between the military and the people, fostered solidarity, and contributed to maintaining political security and social order in the border areas.
