The border area of Dak Nong province covers an area of 151.61km2 with seven communes from four border districts, and is home to 18,833 households with 75,926 people. Among them, ethnic minority groups account for 26.7%. It also has the 141.045km long shared borderline with Cambodia’s Mondulkiri province.

According to Senior Colonel Bui Duc Chinh, Deputy Political Commissar of the Dak Nong provincial Border Guard Command, Resolutions No.05-NQ/TU and No.03-NQ/TU of the Dak Nong provincial Party Committee focus on promoting all resources, especially the role of local people, in combination with the synergy of the whole political system. Over the past 20 years of construction and development (January 10, 2004 - 2024), the Dak Nong provincial Border Guard Command has not only firmly protected national sovereignty in border areas, but also made contribution to the local socio-economic development and defense and security enhancement.

Permanent Deputy Chairman of the Thuan An commune People’s Committee Phan The Duong shared that annually, local border guards give financial support to build one-to-two gratitude houses, present breeding animals and trees to three-to-four poor families, and take care of 12 students in the commune and six others in Mondulkiri province. Thanks to the wholehearted assistance from border guards, dozens of households in Thuan An have escaped from poverty. The average income of local residents was VND 56 million in 2023 and is expected to reach VND 60 million this year.

After years of implementing Resolutions No.05-NQ/TU and No.03-NQ/TU, Dak Nong province has to date demarcated the 115km-long shared borderline, built nearly 121km of border patrol roads, and mobilized about VND 80 billion to invest in infrastructure in border areas.

In Resolution No.03-NQ/TU, the province strives that by 2025, 100% of border commune criteria of an advanced new-style rural area will have met all criteria of a new-style rural area, while the rate of poor families will decrease by 2% each year. By 2030, the province will have completed the building and upgrading of major border protection facilities, contributing to building a shared borderline of peace, friendship, and development, and firmly protecting national sovereignty.
