An overview of the 12th Vietnam - RoK Defense Policy Dialogue |
Gen. Chien congratulated the RoK on the successful 14th Seoul Defense Dialogue, affirming the country and Korean MND’s growing role and position. He highlighted that bilateral defense ties have achieved practical results, particularly in such areas as all-level delegation exchanges, dialogue and consultation mechanisms, cooperation in training, war legacy settlement, U.N. peacekeeping, defense industry, and coordination at multilateral forums such as ADMM+.
Deputy Minister Lee Doo Hee stressed that Vietnam is a key partner, with defense cooperation serving as a main pillar, especially in education, training, and U.N. peacekeeping. He expressed RoK’s wish to expand cooperation into new areas.

During the dialogue, the two sides agreed to strengthen delegation exchanges, maintain effective dialogue and consultation mechanisms, expand training cooperation with Vietnam ready to host RoK officers at the Military Science Academy and the National Defense Academy. They reached consensus on boosting collaboration between arms and services, war legacy settlement, U.N. peacekeeping, defense industry, ties between research institutions, and cultural exchanges.
While exchanging views on regional and global issues of common concern, Gen. Chien reaffirmed Vietnam’s consistent foreign policy and its “Four No's” defense policy, as well as its advocacy of peacefully settling disputes based on international law, especially UNCLOS 1982.

The Korean defense leader underlined the importance of the two countries’ relations and bilateral defense cooperation, emphasizing joint efforts to foster an environment of peace, friendship, cooperation and development. He expressed confidence that the frank and constructive dialogue would contribute to stronger, more effective defense cooperation, effectively contributing to regional and global peace, stability and development.

In the morning the same day, Gen. Chien led a Vietnamese delegation to visit the Korea Military Academy, during which he expressed his impression of the school’s modern facilities and training achievements, as well as high expertise, professionalism, discipline, and regularity of its officers and soldiers.
He appreciated the institution’s effective support for personnel training, with four Vietnamese cadets currently studying there. He expressed hope for further exchanges and cooperation in human resources development. He stressed that the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense is ready to create conditions for Korean military units and the school to share experience with their counterparts in Vietnam in the time ahead.
