During the joint patrol, the two sides carried out the “Hello ASEAN” naval greeting protocol, exchanged information, practiced semaphore flag signaling, and observed the Code for Unplanned Encounters at Sea (CUES) used by Western Pacific navies.
Captain Bui Duc Dong, Second-in-Command and Chief of Staff of Brigade 175, who led the Vietnamese patrol ship, noted that in addition to following the joint patrol coordination regulations, both crews also used communication channels to encourage local fishermen to comply with laws and other fishing regulations and respect each country’s maritime sovereignty.
