They have served as a firm fulcum for the local people in the Westernmost border areas of Quang Tri Province.
Unit twice honored as hero of the people's armed forces
After the signing of the Geneva Agreement in 1954, right-wing reactionary forces in Laos increased their provocative activities, sparking border disputes in Huong Lap Commune, Vinh Linh District, Quang Tri Province.

On June 1, 1955, Vietnamese forces arrived in Cu Bai Village, Huong Lap Commune, and planted the national flag at the tri-junction of the border with Laos and the temporary demarcation line between the North and South Vietnam. This marked the presence of a border protection force in western Vinh Linh and also the founding of Armed Police Station No.15, the predecessor of present Huong Lap Border Post.
In the resistance war against the U.S. imperialists for national salvation, Huong Lap Border Post surmounted difficulties and hardships, excellently fulfilled its national defense tasks. The unit has helped build a strong political establishment and maintained border security, turning Huong Lap Commune into a leading example of order and security protection.
It has also played a vital role in local socio-economic development, effective implementation of people-to-people diplomacy, and the building of a Vietnam - Laos border of compassion, loyalty and solidarity.
With the past feats-of-arms and present accomplishments, the post has been twice bestowed the Hero of the People's Armed Forces title in 1967 and 1973, along with other merit certificates from the Party, State, military and local authorities.
Promoting traditions, accomplishing duties
In order to fulfill their duties, troops of Huong Lap Border Post have pro-actively stayed close to the people, disseminated information to raise public awareness of complying with the Party’s guidelines, the State's policies and laws, protection of national border sovereignty and security. They have actively engaged in building new-style rural areas and civilized villages.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Anh Tuan, Commanding Officer of Huong Lap Border Post, said that the unit has constantly raised troops’ capacity and combat readiness, and strictly observed duty regulations to stay prepared in any circumstances.
The post has closely coordinated with relevant agencies to prevent and combat different kinds of crimes and legal violations. It has also deepened close-knit relations with local authorities and people.
The unit’s programs such as “Warm houses for the poor in border areas,” “Paving the way to school for students,” “Adopted children of border posts,” and other livelihood support activities have significantly contributed to local people’s higher level living standards.
Attentively, Huong Lap Border Post has maintained close coordination with Lao border protection forces to safeguard territorial sovereignty and border security in designated localities. It has also organized visits to Lao border protection forces and people to strengthen ties with them. These have contributed to building a shared border of safety, peace, friendship, cooperation and development with Laos.
