Hon Chuoi Border Post promptly rescues sinking fishing trawler
PANO - On September 21, Colonel Doan Cong Nghiep, Head of Hon Chuoi Border Post under the Border Guard Command of the Ca Mau provincial Military Command, reported that his unit assisted in towing a distressed fishing trawler and its crew ashore.
Earlier, at around 2:00 p.m. on September 20, while conducting a patrol to safeguard maritime sovereignty about one nautical mile off Hon Chuoi Island, Hon Chuoi Border Post detected fishing trawler CM 92101 TS, with Dang Hung Son residing in Hamlet 6, Song Doc commune, Ca Mau province at the helm, towing another trawler that was nearly sunk. The patrol force quickly sent a team to inspect and verify the situation and then guided the trawler in towing the distressed one to Hon Chuoi Island for salvage.

According to initial information from the captain of the distressed trawler CM 91554 TS, the trawler departed from the Song Doc estuary in Song Doc commune, Ca Mau province, on September 16, under the command of Captain Bui Xo Na, a resident in Hamlet 6, Song Doc commune, Ca Mau province.
At 2:40 p.m. on September 18, while operating about 14 nautical miles Northeast of Hon Chuoi Island, the trawler was hit by strong waves and sank. Fortunately, all five crew-members were safely rescued by trawler CM 92101 TS.
The unit then helped raise the trawler and pump water out. By the morning of September 21, the distressed trawler had been successfully salvaged and towed ashore by trawler CM 92222 TS for repairs.
The sinking was caused by rough seas and high winds, with estimated loss of nearly VND 500 million.
