The meeting, which was chaired by Minister of National Defense General Phan Van Giang, reflects the Party, State, and military’s deep concern for former generations of military officers. It was aimed at fostering patriotism, devotion to socialism, national pride, and the tradition of gratitude. The event also contributed to upholding and promoting the noble qualities of “Uncle Ho’s Soldiers” and the heroic revolutionary traditions of the nation.

The get-together also provided an opportunity for the CMC and MND to meet, encourage, and update retired officers on the military’s activities; strengthen bonds and solidarity among generations; understand their thoughts and aspirations; build political consensus; and draw on their valuable experience in the cause of strengthening national defense, building the military, and safeguarding the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Speaking at the meeting, General Phan Van Giang expressed his pleasure at meeting again senior military officers who have retired or ceased active service over different periods. The meeting took place at a time when the entire Party, people, and armed forces are striving to achieve the highest possible results in celebration of the 14th National Party Congress, while welcoming the New Year 2026 and preparing for the upcoming Lunar New Year.

On this occasion, the Defense Minister briefed participants on key developments in the world, regional, and domestic situation. He also highlighted notable achievements in military and defense work, as well as Party building within the military in 2025, and outlined major directions and key tasks for 2026.

On behalf of the CMC, MND’s leadership, and officers and soldiers across the military, General Giang respectfully called on retired and former senior military officers to continue contributing their opinions and sharing their valuable experience. He emphasized that, with their mettle, intellect, experience, sense of responsibility, and dedication, they remain an important source of wisdom for the cause of national construction and defense, building the military, and strengthening the national defense.

He expressed his hope that retired and former senior military officers would continue to be a strong source of encouragement and motivation, standing shoulder to shoulder with the CMC, the MND’s leadership, and party committees and chains-of-command at all levels throughout the military to help them successfully accomplish all assigned tasks, firmly safeguard the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, contributing to leading the country confidently into a new era of national rise, for peace, independence, democracy, prosperity, and steady progress toward socialism.
