Coast Guard Region 4 asked to enhance measures for IUU fishing combat
PANO - A delegation of the Vietnam Coast Guard Command, led by its Deputy Commander for Law Senior Colonel Vu Trung Kien, inspected task performance of the Coast Guard Region 4 Command on combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing as well as fighting against crime at sea.
Over the past time, with numerous comprehensive and effective solutions, the coast guard region has promptly built concrete plans and collaborated well with local authorities to monitor and handle violation cases.
Statistically, the Coast Guard Region 4 Command has handled 11 cases of administrative violations with the total fine of VND 27,650,000 since July 2021. The unit has also launched training sessions for over 1,200 people, presented 1,150 books and 8,850 leaflets to fishermen.
Speaking at the event, Senior Colonel Vu Trung Kien acknowledged and praised the unit’s efforts in implementing measures to fight against IUU fishing and legal violations. He urged the unit to continue observing higher levels’ instructions and enhancing information dissemination on IUU fishing combat.
The officer stressed that the coast guard region should collaborate with the local authority to well manage and safeguard the national sovereignty over sea and islands. In addition, he required the unit to strictly deal with violation cases, especially in smuggling and trade fraud.
