Defense Minister General Ngo Xuan Lich presided over the meeting in the presence of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

According to a general report on the military-defense mission performance delivered by Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Defense Minister, Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, since the beginning of this year, the CMC and MND have directed the whole military to implement military-defense missions with a focus on key contents, creating strong and encouraging changes in different aspects.

The military has embraced  and forecast accurately situations; actively and effectively recommended the Party and the State with solutions to arising issues on the strategic directions and at the strategic locations; firmly safeguarded the national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity while further building programs and plans to implement defense-security strategies, meeting the requirements of national protection missions in the immediate and long runs.

Under the direction of the MND, the military has well performed its key role in building a whole people’s defense posture in combination with a strong whole people’s security posture; coordinated with the Ministry of Public Security and other forces to safeguard national security, maintain social order and safety and ensure safety for political events of the nation; well organized exercises; and crafted plans for any issues arising. Besides, the military’s law enforcement force has participated actively and effectively in the fight against crimes.

The whole military has seriously observed combat readiness regulations, renovated and improved quality of training, exercises, education and training, built comprehensively strong agencies and units, contributing to the enhancement of their integrated quality, combat capabilities, meeting the requirements of national safeguarding missions in the current context, implemented comprehensively Party and political work and maintained the Party’s leadership over all operations of the military agencies and units.

The Military Party Organization has always been politically, ideologically, and morally strong and ensured the absolute and direct leadership of the Party over the military in all aspects.

Troops have stayed united, believed absolutely in the Party’s leadership, strengthened close ties with people, overcome difficulties, been ready to undertake and fulfill any assigned missions, brought into play its core role in preventing and overcoming consequences of natural disasters and war aftermath; effectively carried out mass mobilization, benefit policies for wounded, fallen soldiers, policy beneficiaries, and search and repatriation of remains of martyrs.

Over the past time, the CMC and the MND have well-coordinated with centrally-run agencies and localities to implement external affairs in an effective way. The effective defense relations and cooperation have contributed positively to maintaining a peaceful and stable environment for the national development. In fact, defense cooperation has become one of the major pillars in external affairs of the Party and State, contributing to building strategic trust, improving Vietnam’s status and prestige in the international arena and promoting national defense capabilities.

Addressing the conference, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc spoke highly of the outcomes of the military’s task performance in the first half of the year. He believed that the military will continue successfully fulfilling all assigned missions, deserving the trust of the Party, State and people.

In his concluding speech, Defense Minister General Ngo Xuan Lich asked all defense agencies and military units to focus their leadership on evaluating and forecasting precisely situational developments, actively give advice to the Party and State to handle any arising issues, implement the Politburo’s resolutions and conclusions on defense and military strategies and other related projects, seriously maintain combat readiness regulations, improve the quality of political and ideological education, proactively team up with other forces to safeguard the national sovereignty and territorial integrity, political events, uphold political security nationwide and maritime economic activities, and ensure a peaceful environment for national development.

The military should promote the fight against the “peaceful evolution” strategy of hostile forces, and manifestations of “self-transformation” and “self-evolution” among troops while seeking a good approach to Industry 4.0 and preventing foreign violations of Vietnam’s sovereignty over the seas and islands by peaceful means.
