The event was chaired by VNDPKO’s Director Major General Hoang Kim Phung and attended by Steven Takekoshi, a specialist from the US Global Peace Operations Initiative, Colonel Shahidul Islam, a representative from the AAPTC Secretariat and representatives from agencies and units of the Ministry of National Defense.
At the conference, delegates discussed preparations for the AAPTC’s general meeting, contributing to affirming and increasing Vietnam’s position and prestige in the international arena in the peacekeeping field as well as raising the effectiveness of peacekeeping operations of countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
They will also help enhance mutual understanding, friendship, and cooperation in the field between Vietnam and member states of the AAPTC.
Speaking at the event, General Phung emphasized that the AAPTC meeting is an important event, so it is essential to outline initial plans and discuss preparations for the event in 2020.
Colonel Shahidul Islam expressed his strong belief that with its efforts and contributions to UN’s initiatives in this field, Vietnam will successfully host the AAPTC’s general meeting next year.
In 2020, the VNDPKO will assume the Chair of the AAPTC and the ASEAN Peacekeeping Centers Network (APCN) for the first time. The department has been chosen as one of the four training centers for peacekeepers in the region under the UN’s Triangular Partnership Project (TPP).
The organization of the AAPTC meeting will contribute to realizing Vietnam’s guidelines on building the VNDPKO as a key training center for peacekeepers in the region and the world.
