Senior Lieutenant General Vu Hai San, Deputy Minister of National Defense and Head of the Defense Ministry’s Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, attended the event and assigned missions to the reinforced troops.

Speaking at the event, Senior Lieutenant General Vu Hai San recalled that considering COVID-19 prevention and control a combat mission of troops in peacetime, agencies and units in the whole military have actively taken drastic, creative and effective preventive measures while closely working with other forces to contain the virus. Their efforts have been highly appreciated and acknowledged by local Party committees, authorities and people.

Troops tested for SARS-CoV-2 before heading to HCMC

He said that in response to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s call for concerted efforts in COVID-19 combat and the Prime Minister’s instruction on helping southern localities combat COVID-19, the Ministry of National Defense directed its agencies and units to erect seven field hospitals for infectious diseases, including Field Hospital 5D, to treat COVID-19 cases.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic situation in Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong province is still complicated, the Ministry of National Defense has decided to send 100 military medical staff to assist Field Hospital 5D in increasing its capacity and capability to treat COVID-19 cases. These doctors and nurses are from the Military Medical University, Military Region 3, Military Region 7 and the Military Institute of Traditional Medicine.

Delegates encouraging reinforced troops

Mentioning military medical staff’s heavy task, Senior Lieutenant General Vu Hai San hoped that the reinforced doctors and nurses will be fully aware of the important political mission and determined to complete it. He also urged them to closely cooperate with local forces to raise field hospitals’ capability in receiving and treating COVID-19 patients.

Military medical personnel heading to COVID-19-hit areas

Together with updating the developments of the disease, relevant agencies should closely follow the operation of field hospitals and create favorable conditions for them to fulfill assigned missions, the deputy defense minister added.
