PANO – The Vietnam People’s Navy concluded the 2016 Training Contest for Surface Ships on July 27 in Cam Ranh city, Khanh Hoa province. The event was chaired by Navy’s Commander, Rear Admiral Pham Hoai Nam, and participated by a number of other high-ranking naval officers and crewmen.
The contest drew the participation of 44 surface ships of 11 units of the Naval Service. The contest consisted of 8 training categories: the whole ship, navigation, weaponry, electronics, electrics and mechanism, unarmed lineups and sports, politics and logistics.

According to reports, the contest was successful, meeting the set targets.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Naval Commander stressed the meaning of the contest, saying that commands and staff bodies at all levels could realize strengths and limitations of units and could draw valuable lessons and experiences from the contest. “These lessons and experiences should be carefully studied by units so as to improve the quality of training in the future in an effort to build a revolutionary, regularity, elite and modern navy,” he stressed.
The organizing board announced the results of the contest, saying that 100% participating units achieved the good and excellent grades. Ship 012 of Brigade 162 won the first prize in the combat ship grouping and Ship Truong Sa 21 of Brigade 125 was ranked first in the logistic and support ship grouping.
