At the meeting, the committee applauded involved units for effectively applying COVID-19 prevention and control measures during the 11th Military Party Congress and implementation of other military-defense missions. It also highly valued the good performance of the border guard force in immigration control and of other military units in receiving and quarantining Vietnamese citizens returning home from abroad.

Especially since April, over 55,000 Vietnamese citizens have been quarantined in military quarantine facilities.

Regarding the COVID-19 prevention and control missions in the coming time, General Don asked defense agencies and military units to continue to fight the pandemic like an enemy. They must strictly observe directives on COVID-19 prevention and control issued by the steering committees for COVID-19 prevention and control at all levels and the Ministry of National Defense as well as instructions by the Health Ministry and the Department of Military Medicine.

The border guard force should tighten the control of borders, prevent illegal immigration and crimes while military hospitals and units continue to effectively manage quarantine areas to avoid the spread of the pandemic, Don said.

Regarding the COVID-19 prevention and control exercise, General Don requested the General Department of Logistics to work closely with the Health Ministry to devise solutions to possible scenarios and ensure absolute safety during important political events of the nation and the military.

He also urged related units to put forth the development and production of COVID-19 vaccines, and enhance international cooperation in COVID-19 prevention and control. He asked Command 86, the Military Industry-Telecoms Group (Viettel) to apply scientific and technological advances and IT to the work of COVID-19 prevention and control and the military press to continue disseminating information related to troops’ COVID-19 prevention and control activities. He also emphasized that the military should take the lead in the COVID-19 fight.
