PANO – The Department of Military Training under the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army on March 24th marked the 70th anniversary of its traditional day and received the second class Fatherland Protection Order.
Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh, Chief of the General Staff, Deputy Defence Minister General Do Ba Ty, and Deputy Defence Ministers Senior Lieutenant General Be Xuan Truong and Admiral Nguyen Van Hien attended the celebration.

During the event, the participants recalled the glorious history and achievements of the department over the past 70 years under the leadership of the Party, Uncle Ho, the Central Military Commission, Defence Ministry and the General Staff. As a strategic unit, the Department of Military Training has provided wise advice on combat training, making contributions to the success of the resistance war for national independence. The unit’s troops also actively carried out international obligations.
In peacetime, the troops closely followed the situation developments to give advice to higher levels to raise the quality of combat training and the strength of the army.
With its feats of arms and contributions, the unit was honoured with many noble orders by the Party, State, Army and the title of the Hero of the People’s Armed Forces in 2005.
Having handed over the order to the department, General Phung Quang Thanh congratulated and praised the achievements and contributions of the department to the national salvation, construction, and defence and army building causes. The Defence Minister asked the department’s troops to promote its glorious traditions, raise their professionalism, and boost the quality of staff work, to make the unit a comprehensively strong one. In addition, the department was requested to compile training materials in line with assigned missions and reality, conduct contests and exercises, upgrade training grounds, and promote the application of technology in training to ensure its quality and combat readiness capability to meet the requirements for national protection missions in the new context.
