PANO - Sr. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Thanh Cung, Deputy Minister of National Defence, on December 26th hailed the military judiciary, inspection and legal sectors for their this year achievements.

The commendation was made at the video conference reviewing the sectors’ work in 2014 and mapping out key missions for 2015, hosted by the Ministry of National Defence.

This year, judiciary, inspection and legal departments, the Border Guard and the Coast Guard effectively cooperated with units and localities to deal with different cases. Attentively, border guard units in coordination with other forces found out and tackled nearly 12,000 cases while the coast guards uncovered 143 drug trafficking cases and 42 goods smuggling cases at sea.

At the conference, delegates discussed the building of legal documents, the addressing of existing cases and complaints, the anti-corruption in the army and prevention of drug related crimes and trade fraud in border areas and at sea.

Regarding the missions in 2015, General Cung reminded the sectors to minimize disciplinary violations in the army and further promote the effectiveness of the anti-smuggling and trade fraud prevention. He also stresses on the need to withdraw lessons from the building of pilot legal bodies in the Navy, the General Department of Technology and Military Zone 7 for duplication.

* The same day, the Ministry of National Defence organized a conference to collect contributions to the draft Chapter 23 of the revised Penal Code on the crimes relating to violations of military personnel’s obligations and responsibilities, under the chair of Sr. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Thanh Cung.

The draft Chapter 23 entitled “Crime violating military activities” consists of 31 articles, in stead of current 26 articles.

Noting the delegates’ opinions, General Cung stressed that the building of the draft must be systematic, scientific and suitable with procedures in the army. He asked relevant organs to keep studying and adjusting the draft to submit to the Central Committee of Compilation for approval.
