At the launch of the texting program |
As part of the build-up to the 73rd anniversary of the Vietnamese Wounded Soldiers’ and Martyrs’ Day (July 27), the program aims to raise money for DNA testing to identify fallen soldiers. The organizers will also use the funds to present savings books, build gratitude houses, and give gifts to families of fallen troops and heroic Vietnamese mothers in need.
This meaningful program aims to beautify the national tradition of “When drinking water, remember its source” and for people nationwide to express gratitude to those who have wholeheartedly devoted their lives for national independence and freedom.
Each SMS sent to portal 1405 until July 30, 2020 will contribute VND 20,000 to the program. Apart from texting, individuals and organizations can transfer the donation to the Vietcombank account 0611000185210 or contact the Vietnam Martyrs’ Family Support Association via the phone number 069.694.582.

The burial service for 17 fallen troops |
The same day, a burial service was held at the War Martyrs’ Cemetery of Phuoc Son district, Quang Nam province for 17 fallen troops whose remains were found recently at Kham Duc airport in the district. These commandos sacrificed their lives in an attack on the airport on August 5, 1970.
Kham Duc airport was built by the US in 1960 with the aim of reinforcing US forces stationed in the western part of Quang Nam province and of breaking Road 14 linking the Central Highlands with Lower Laos and the Ho Chi Minh trail on which troops and goods were transported to the South.
