Children enthusiastically experience life as coast guard soldiers
PANO – Naval Squadron 202 of Coast Guard Region 2, in coordination with the Quang Tri Provincial Youth Union chapter and Children Activity Center, organized the summer experiential program “We become coast guard soldiers” on August 23.
The program brought together 52 children aged 7 to 15, who were introduced to basic knowledge about the national sea and islands, as well as the functions, missions and proud traditions of the Vietnam Coast Guard throughout its development. The program also provided lessons in life and teamwork skills, while helping the children develop resilience, discipline, good habits and a sense of responsibility.
The participants took part in practical activities, including folding blankets and mosquito nets, organizing personal belongings, learning about drowning prevention and basic water rescue techniques, identifying dangerous waters, understanding safe rescue principles, practicing the use of rescue ropes, and learning survival and safety skills at sea. They were also taught basic first aid.
The children also had opportunities to interact with officers and soldiers through cultural performances, folk games, sports activities and agricultural production activities.
Maj. Nguyen Quang Cuong, Political Commissar of Naval Squadron 202, said the program provided a useful and healthy environment for children to gain hands-on experience and learn about the daily lives and routines of the coast guard force. It also allowed them to experience the military’s disciplined environment firsthand.
Le Chi Kien, a seventh-grade student at Tran Hung Dao Secondary School in Dong Ha shared that they were very proud to have the opportunity to experience life as coast guard soldiers. The program gave them knowledge about national sea and islands and the proud traditions of the Vietnam Coast Guard.
