Here are 10 outstanding activities of military youths last year:
1. Activities in celebration of the 90 years of Communist Party of Vietnam and Party congresses at all levels:
Military youths completed 6,289 structures and organized 8,536 political meetings, talk shows and forums, and 4,680 cultural and sport exchanges. In addition, 14,256 youths were admitted to the Party and 10,265 officers in charge of this work at all levels attended 281 refresher courses.
2. “Border Spring-Tet on Islands” program
The program was effectively organized in 350 locations at the grassroots level throughout the military. During the program, 18 “VND 100 houses”, 65,000 chung cakes, 17,250 gifts and 188 scholarships, worth over VND 20 billion, were presented to policy and needy households and poor students. Moreover, thousands of people were given free health checkups and medicines.
3. Military Young Outstanding Example Awards 2020:
The whole military had ten outstanding young faces and 15 promising young faces, including a soldier who was honored with the Vietnam Outstanding Young Face Award and two others titled Vietnam Promising Young Faces. Meanwhile, they also held a get-together for outstanding youth union members who took part in the tenth military-wide “Determined to Win” emulation congress.
4. Military creative youth movement and Military Youth Creativity Awards:
The movement was effectively implemented in the whole military, receiving 13,806 initiatives. The Military Youth Board and the Military Science Department of the Ministry of National Defense were presented with the Prime Minister’s certificates of merit for their outstanding achievements in the 20 years of organizing Military Youth Creativity Awards.
5. Activities in celebration of the 73rd Wounded and Fallen Soldiers’ Day:
The whole military hosted over 4,000 political meetings, talk shows and forums, met with historical witnesses, implemented “return-to-the-roots” journeys, and carried out gratitude activities, worth over VND 20 billion.
6. Dissemination about COVID-19 prevention and control:
26,566 troops directly involved in quarantining Vietnamese citizens as well as took part in the production of real-time RT-PCR test kits for the detection of the novel coronavirus, distributed 36,300 leaflets, handed over 300,000 face masks, 60,000 bottles of hand sanitizer, and 50,000 sets of protective equipment, worth over VND 10 billion.
7. Natural disaster prevention and control and search and rescue missions:
Over 600,000 troops volunteered to take part in natural disaster relief as well as search and rescue missions. They also presented gifts to flood-hit victims at a total cost of VND 30 billion. Especially, 21 officials and soldiers were killed in action by a landslide during a rescue operation.
8. Outstanding models in legal dissemination and education for troops in the 2018-2020 period
Seventy nine military groups and individuals were honored for their achievements in conducting legal dissemination and education.
9. Reviewing the implementation of the Resolution of the XI National Congress of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the Action Program for Youth Union and the five-year Military Youth Movement (2017-2022):
Military youth work in the first half of the term was considerably accomplished, contributing to raising troops’ awareness of the youth union work.
In the 2017-2020 term, military youths had a firm political stance, stayed loyal to the Party, and promoted the beautiful image of Uncle Ho’s soldiers.
10. Social security activities, hunger elimination and poverty reduction, new-style rural area building and environmental protection
Over 6,000 “Voluntary Saturday” and “Green Sunday” programs were implemented; six bridges, 58km of rural concrete roads, and 41 playgrounds for kids were built; 171 cultural houses were repaired. Military youths also provided free health checkups and medicines for over 35,000 policy people, worth over VND 5 billion, donated 5,500 units of blood, presented 8,365 gifts, and collected 200 tons of waste.
In addition, the “Youths with national seas and islands” festival was also held and gave away various gifts, necessities, and equipment, worth nearly VND 900 million.
