The school’s enrollment targets include children of ethnic communities, policy beneficiary families, national contributors in Military Region 7 and Military Region 9. The school will also train international students from such countries as Laos, Cambodia and other students as decided by competent authorities.

The school is scheduled to start operations in September 2026 (2026-2027 academic year).

Addressing the event, Gen. Thang expressed his emotion as he, along with several former Party and State leaders present, had once studied and trained in junior cadet schools. The defense leader affirmed that the establishment of the Southern Junior Cadet School is a significant event, marking a new step forward in education and training within the military, helping build a successor workforce for the Vietnam People’s Army to serve the national construction and defense cause in the new situation.

He requested the Party Committee and Chain-of-Command of Military Region 7 to focus on leadership and direction, ensuring thorough grasp and strict implementation of higher-level decisions on the establishment of the Southern Junior Cadet School, and compliance with State and Ministry of National Defense regulations on education and training.

He directed the school to promptly consolidate its organizational structure, ensure sufficient, high-quality officers, teachers, and personnel, assign tasks clearly with defined responsibilities, continue improving infrastructure, upgrading barracks, equipment, and teaching facilities.

The institution was also urged develop and finalize education and training programs in line with a smart, modern school model; and coordinate enrollment in a strict, transparent, high-quality, and regulation-compliant manner.

On behalf of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, Gen. Thang presented the “Determined-to-Win” military flag to the Southern Junior Cadet School and gifted the school a painting of President Ho Chi Minh with children from the South.
