Second English Olympiad for cadets opens at MTA
PANO – The General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army launched the second English Olympiad for cadets from military schools at the Military Technical Academy (MTA) on November 25.

The opening ceremony saw the presence of Lieutenant General Ngo Minh Tien, Deputy Chief of the General Staff, and Lieutenant General Tran Huu Phuc, Head of the Department of Defense School Management under the General Staff.
Under the theme of “Military youths follow Uncle Ho’s teachings”, the five-day competition drew the participation of 190 cadets in 19 teams from schools and academies in the military.
The contestants will compete in two categories: group and individual. In the individual competition, each competitor will perform their English skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing at the B1 level of the Common Framework of Reference for Languages issued by the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training. Meanwhile, the group competition will have three subjects of greetings, general knowledge, and an oral test on the stage.
Addressing the opening ceremony, General Tien held that the first competition in 2017 impressed much on participants and contributed to improving the quality of language training in the military later on. Therefore, he reaffirmed the significant role of the competition and stressed that the military schools should organize the school-level competitions regularly to promote the language learning movement. The winners of the competition are expected to be key personnel in the future for the defense external sector, he added.
