Newly-appointed Chief of General Staff undertakes mission
PANO – Defense Minister and former Chief of the General Staff Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang handed his post of Chief of the General Staff over to Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong at a meeting on June 4 in Hanoi.
On behalf of the Central Military Commission and leaders of the Ministry of National Defense, Defense Minister Phan Van Giang congratulated Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong on his promotion to Chief of the General Staff.
General Giang expected that with his rich knowledge and practical experience and high sense of responsibility, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong will successfully fulfil his duty as Chief of the General Staff.
Giang hoped that Cuong, together with the Central Military Commission and leaders of the Ministry of National Defense, will make due recommendations for the Party and State to issue guidelines and measures to successfully fulfil military and defense missions in the new period, contributing to raising the stature of the military and promoting the virtues of Uncle Ho’s soldiers.
Speaking at the event, General Cuong expressed his honor to undertake the new mission and affirmed that he will continue self-studying to meet task requirements. He also promised to work with the General Staff’s leaders and affiliated agencies and units to strengthen unity among troops and raise the effectiveness of task performance.

Cuong expected that the Defense Minister will create favorable conditions for the General Staff in general and its chief in particular to fulfil all missions assigned by the Party, State, people and army.
