PANO - Missile Battalion 78 under Missile Regiment 257 of Anti-aircraft Division 361 of the Air Defence and Air Force Service was recently awarded the title “Hero of the People’s Armed Forces”.
Founded on November 13, 1965, the battalion was among key units cooperating with other air force and air defence forces and troops and people in Hanoi to gain the resounding victory of the “Hanoi-Dien Bien Phu in the Air” campaign.
In the resistance war against American imperialists, this battalion shot down 14 US aircraft of different types, including three B-52s. Attentively, the unit launched the first missile starting the 12-day campaign in 1972.
In the resounding victory, aircraft watcher Nghiem Xuan Danh of Company 1 of Battalion 77 fought unyieldingly and bravely till his death. With his great contributions, he was also bestowed posthumously the same title.
