Present at the event were General Luong Cuong, Director of the General Department of Politics (GDP) of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA); Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Chief of the VPA’s General Staff and Deputy Defense Minister; among others.
Delegates at the conference underscored that in December 2019, all military agencies and units strictly maintained combat readiness posture and firmly protected national sovereignty over the seas and islands, the national airspaces, and in cyberspace.
The ministry directed affiliated units to draw up and grasp their combat plans, hold live-fire exercises, prepare forces and equipment for search and rescue missions, closely follow developments of local situations, and ensure smooth telecommunications for task implementation.

Furthermore, defense agencies and military units enhanced ideological and political education, and dissemination of information about their military-defense missions. They effectively organized activities in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Whole People's Defense Festive Day and the 75th founding anniversary of the VPA and the GDP (December 22).
In addition, they excellently completed all logistic, technical services and defense industry as well as other assignments to meet the task requirements, while improving troops’ material and spiritual lives.
Addressing the conference, General Lich spoke highly of the good results of all military agencies and units in December 2019.
Having analyzed situations that may affect the military’s task performance in January 2020, especially the time around the upcoming 2020 Lunar New Year festival (Tet), the Defense Minister requested them to continue to promote ideological and political education for troops, strictly observe duty regulations, and protect assigned targets.
Meanwhile, they should further coordinate with local Party committees, authorities, and functional forces to maintain social order and security; and complete transferring demobilized soldiers to their hometowns and make good preparations for the 2020 new enlistment.
They were also urged to organize a joyful, safe and economical Tet with high maintenance applied to combat readiness duties as well as to take good care of needy defense workers and local policy beneficiaries.
