* Before launching the tree-planting festival, permanent members of the Party Committee and leadership of the Military Region 4 Command and its affiliates offered incense and flowers to Late President Ho Chi Minh at the Memorial House dedicated to him in the Kim Lien Relic Site in Nam Dan district, Nghe An province.
In his speech at the launch ceremony, Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Military Region 4’s Commander, emphasized the popularity among troops and people of the festival’s aim and its significance, as well as the major role and long-term comprehensive benefit of tree-planting and afforestation. The human benefits were also emphasized, as it contributes to local economic development, living standard improvement and healthy living environment promotion.
Following this, troops of Military Region 4 planted 60 purple Bauhinia trees, scientifically known as Bauhinia Variegata, and tended the green tree system in the relic site.
* Nearly 1,000 precious timber and fruit trees were grown around the barracks of the Political University.
* At the tree-planting festival launched at Engineer Brigade 543 of Military Region 2, the region’s command advised that all available spaces in and around the training grounds of the region be planted with green trees. Besides planting timber and fruit trees with high economic values, the unit has also paid attention to growing ornamental trees, flowers and vegetables, contributing to improving the unit’s environment, improving the troops’ living standard and beautifying its barracks.
This year, the armed forces of Military Region 2 plan to plant 75,000 green trees of different kinds. Engineer Brigade 543 targets to grow over 3,000 trees in the stationed area.

* After the launch of the festival, Naval Region 3 planted and tended over 5,000 trees.
* Similar festivals were also organized by the Health Institute of the Naval Logistics Department in Hai Phong city, Naval Engineer Brigade 83 in Da Nang city, the Quang Tri provincial Military Command and armed forces of Ninh Binh province.
As a result, the Health Institute will plant and take care of over 200 shade and fruit trees this year while Naval Engineer Brigade 83 is planning to grow over 2,000 trees of different kinds in a forest in Hoa Khuong commune, Hoa Ninh district, Da Nang city and in its stationed areas.
By planting over 1,200 trees of different kinds, the armed forces of Ninh Binh province hope to raise responsibilities of the participants in arboriculture as well as environmental protection.
