Present at the ceremony were Lieutenant General Pham Ngoc Hung, Director of the General Department II; Chairman of the Da Nang City People’s Committee Huynh Duc Tho and generations of the brigade’s cadres.
On March 20, 1947, Battalion 426, Ground Force Regiment 59, predecessor of Brigade 74 was founded in Tam Di commune, Luc Nam district, Bac Giang province. The unit’s cadres and troops surmounted difficulties to fight evildoers and bandits as well as get involved in the Fall-Winter Campaign in Viet Bac in 1947, Border Campaign in 1950, and the historical Dien Bien Phu Campaign.
In September 1958, it was rebranded Reconnaissance Battalion 74 and tasked with combatting and training cadres for battlefields in South Vietnam and Laos. It actively participated in big campaigns, making great contributions to the Great Victory in Spring 1975.
After that, it joined the fight to defend the Northern and Southeastern border.
On May 22, 2013, the Minister of National Defense issued a decision to reorganize and establish Brigade 74.
Bringing into full play the unit’s tradition as a Hero of the People’s Armed Forces, Brigade 74’s Party Committee and leaders have directed the unit to victoriously fulfill Resolution 765 of the Central Military Commission and directives by the General Department II on strengthening combat strength of special reconnaissance brigades by 2020 and in following years”.
The unit has annually achieved almost all its training targets and most of its party members have outstandingly accomplished their assigned missions. Moreover, it has actively and well prepared personnel, equipment, weapons and combat plans.
It has also proactively done tasks of mass mobilization, overcoming natural disaster consequences, and firefighting.
In ten consecutive years from 2005, the unit was recognized as a lean and strong Party organization.
