Military unit conducts oil spill response exercise
PANO – The Oil and Gas Department under the General Department of Logistics of the Ministry of National Defense held an oil spill response exercise at the oil export-import port of Depot 661 on May 10.
The exercise consisted of two phases: operational mechanism and field training.

In the operational mechanism phase, the leadership of Depot 661 immediately assigned relevant agencies and units to deploy response forces to the scene while reporting the case to other forces in the whole province of Thanh Hoa and calling for support.
As for the field training phase, personnel and vehicles of the deport were mobilized to the oil spill area on the Ma River, initially blocked the leakage on the tanker of Brigade 649, provided medical emergency aid to victims, and evacuated affected people from the scene.

Armed forces stationed in Thanh Hoa province were quickly deployed to the scene to coordinate with specialized forces to evacuate people out of the area, block bad guys from taking advantage of the incident to undermine social order, and carry out mass mobilization work.
As the scenario went, after the deployment of the forces and the evacation of local people, fire and explosions occured on the tanker, causing oil pollution to a large area of the Ma River. Though having to deal with three situations simultaneously, the troops successfully completed their tasks with absolute safety.
Senior Lieutenant General Tran Don, Deputy Defense Minister, highly evaluated the efforts of the troops participating in the exercise, stressing that the exercise met the designated targets.
