Party Chief, CMC Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong talks with role models in building the strong whole-people defense disposition in the 2009-2019 period, December 19, 2019.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong urged the whole military to adhere to the principle of building a politically-strong military since it is a fundamental issue, a consistent principle during the military’s construction, combat and development process in order to maintain and strengthen the nature of the working class, the goals and ideals of the Party, and is a decisive factor to successfully accomplish all assignments.

The Party chief paid due attention to building a contingent of competent, highly reputable, exemplary military officials and training military officials according to the “Seven Dares” spirit, namely dare to think, dare to speak out, dare to do, dare to take responsibility, dare to renovate and be creative, dare to confront difficulties and challenges, and dare to act for the common interest.

Most recently, at the 10th meeting of the Central Military Commission (CMC), General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong continued to stress the principle of building the military strong in politics and urged the CMC to constantly improve leadership capability, combat strength, uphold and promote the Party’s absolute and direct leadership across all aspects over the military. He also requested the military to accelerate the studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s thought, morality and lifestyle with creative models to encourage Party officials and members to contribute more to serving the Party, Fatherland and people.

The party chief also asked for comprehensive approaches to uphold and promote good qualities of Uncle Ho’s soldiers, fight against individualism in the new situation, be active in protecting the Party’s ideological foundation, combat against wrongful and hostile views, effectively carry out mass mobilization and policies for military’s rear and strengthen close-knit ties between troops and people.

The Party leader’s directions have been widely popularized in the military and effectively realized.

To continue to build a politically-strong military in the coming time under the General Secretary’s direction, Gen. Quyet underlined that the whole military must well implement following solutions.

Firstly, the absolute and direction leadership of the Party over the military must be upheld and strengthened. Agencies and units should continue embrace and implement resolutions, directives and regulations of higher levels on promoting good qualities of Uncle Ho’s soldiers, resolutely fighting against individualism, further carrying out the movement “Promoting traditions, devoting talent, deserving to be Uncle Ho’s soldiers” in the new situation, and building a strong, healthy, exemplary, typical Military Party Organization.

Secondly, political education and orientation of troops’ thinking should be renovated with higher quality. Accordingly, troops should be fully aware of the military and their units’ tasks, especially defense-military and Fatherland protection ones. They should also heighten vigilance, grasp opportunities, and be aware of challenges to task performance to deal with any emerging situations.

Thirdly, effectiveness of Party and political work should be promoted. “Determined-to-win” emulation movements, emulation and reward work, mass mobilization activities should be enhanced to tighten the military-civilian relations, consolidate people’s heart position in strategic areas, border areas, and on islands. In addition, the military must be a key force in disaster prevention and control and search and rescue operations, considering it a combat task in peacetime.

Fourthly, the military should build a strong contingent of capable cadres with the “Seven Dares” spirit and create best conditions and environment for Party officials and members to perform their duties and responsibilities.

Fifthly, the military should pro-actively fight against wrongful, hostile viewpoints and firmly protect the Party’s ideological front in the military. To do that, renovation in forms and methods of fighting should be applied. Moreover, troops should be fully aware of the military’s role, position, functions, tasks and combat targets and deal with situations in line with the Party’s policies, and the State’s laws and resolutely combat against signs of degradation in political thinking, morality, style, “self-evolution,” “self-transformation,” individualism, and others.

The military is striving to build a politically-strong military according to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s direction to beautify the glorious tradition of the military of “being loyal to the Party, filial to the people, willing to fight and sacrifice for the Fatherland’s independence and freedom and for socialism,” and “fulfilling any tasks, overcoming any difficulties and defeating any enemies.”
