“Small soldiers” practice martial arts. |
Many parents can’t help feeling happy seeing their sons or daughters’ improvement in their understanding and action after joining the program. Apart from being equipped with life skills, participating teens and adolescences also understand their parents’ hardships and sacrifices, thus knowing how to share burdens with them.
Mrs. Le Nguyen from Cam Le ward said that she was happy seeing her child’s improvement after experiencing being a “small soldier” at Regiment 971 of the Da Nang municipal Military Command. The mother highlighted that military semester is a useful environment for teens and adolescences to acquire essential life skills. She added that the ten-day program helped her child know how to listen to and share with others.
For Mrs. Pham Thi Le from Dak Ha district, Kon Tum province, military semester is not new to her since this was the second time that she had sent her children to the program at Regiment 990 of the provincial Military Command. Noticing her son’s improvements after joining the program, Mrs. Le wanted her daughter to be trained in that environment. For her daughter, Le Quyen, she was excited to experience being a “small soldier” like her brother after listening to his stories about the life in the military. Mrs. Le did not hesitate to approve her daughter’s aspiration.
Vo Duc Trung, a student from Cam Le district, Da Nang city, said that what he found most attractive in the military semester program at Regiment 971 were activities to help them raise their skills, strengthen solidarity, show their creativity, and think positively.
Reportedly, during the ten-day program, “small soldiers” learn basic knowledge about defense and security, national pride, heroic traditions of the Vietnam People’s Army, military discipline, and manners of a soldier. They are also equipped with essential life skills that help them be more confident, responsible, honest, and creative. Through contents, they also know how to share and care about their families, friends, and people around them.

The semester enhances participants’ confidence. |
According to Political Commissar of Battalion 1 of Regiment 971 Major Van Minh Hieu, contents in the program are logically built in accordance with the thoughts of participants at different ages and based on special features in the military, including discipline, team spirit, self-discipline, and swift response.
Ms. Truong Thi Le, a member of the city’s Youth Union Organization, said that over the past 15 years, the program has gradually drawn the support and attention of parents as well as teens and adolescences in summer time. To have such achievements, the steering board of the program annually holds lessons learnt meetings and pays attention to information dissemination to bring the semester closer to children across the country. The organizing panel has well collaborated with units to renew and raise the quality of contents, thus inspiring more people to join the event.
The military semester program is credited as a useful environment for children to strengthen connection, build up self-discipline lifestyle, and enhance sharing and loving spirit. The improvement of “small soldiers” in their thoughts and action after each semester has brought happiness to parents.
