A day earlier, MR2’s Commander Lieutenant General Pham Hong Chuong, Commander of Military Region 2, presided over a meeting to announce the decision of the Minister of National Defense on the merger of the two departments.

At the event on October 11, representatives of the two departments read reports on the handover contents and opinions of functional agencies, focusing on the key missions for the remaining time of this year and beyond as well as the party organization work.

Gen. Bac asked the newly-merged agency to ensure logistics and technical services for defense and military tasks, including routine and unscheduled ones, and other tasks related to disaster and disease prevention and control. He requested its cadres and Party members to set exemplary role and the whole staff to strive to complete all assignments, meeting the requirement of military building in the new period.

While waiting for the Ministry of National Defense’s decision on the post of director of the department, Senior Colonel Nguyen Anh Ngoc was assigned to command it. In his speech, Col. Ngoc emphasized the important meaning of the merger, marking the development of the agency and promoting the tradition of the General Department of Military Supplies in the resistance wars against the French colonialists and the U.S. imperialists. The officer stressed that the agency’s staff would stay united, maintain high sense of determination, and well perform logistics and technical services from first days of the merger.

Addressing the meeting on October 10, Gen. Chuong praised agencies and units for good preparations for the merger and underlined its significance in constantly improving synergy, combat strength and laying a good foundation for building a modernized military.
