According to two Prime Minister’s decisions, Lieutenant General Le Quang Dao has been appointed as Deputy Chief of the General Staff, and Major General Le Dinh Cuong as the new Commander of the Vietnam Coast Guard.

At the ceremony, Gen. Dao officially handed over the duties of a commander of the Vietnam Coast Guard to Gen. Cuong.

After hearing reports and discussions, on behalf of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, Gen. Nguyen Tan Cuong highly praised the Vietnam Coast Guard for its achievements over the past time and congratulated both senior officers on their new posts.

The defense leader urged the Vietnam Coast Guard’s Party Committee and Chain-of-Command to continue to embrace and strictly implement high-level directives on military and defense affairs, pro-actively coordinate with other forces to grasp situations, and give timely advice to deal with contingencies in a flexible and effective manner.

The force must uphold its core role in law enforcement and maritime security, strengthen patrols and observe combat readiness regulations, combat crimes, firmly tackle IUU fishing, and actively respond to natural disasters and search-and-rescue missions, serving as a reliable support for fishermen to hold on to the sea.

He also called for synchronized reforms to improve synergy and combat strength, meeting mission requirements in new period.

Gen. Cuong also urged Dao to swiftly take on his new role and lead agencies and units in the military to achieve their military and defense tasks.

For Maj. Gen. Cuong, the defense leader stressed the need to bring into play the past accomplishments of the force, heighten sense of responsibility, continue building unity. The new commander of the Vietnam Coast Guard was asked to develop leadership measures related to training, regularity building, discipline, national maritime sovereignty safeguarding and maintenance of political security, order and safety in sea and border areas nationwide. These would help build elite, compact, strong, and modern Vietnam Coast Guard ready to undertake and fulfil all assignments, and trusted by the Party, State, and people.
