According to the decision, Lieutenant General Dong Sy Nguyen, former Politburo member, former Vice President of the Council of Ministers (now Deputy Prime Minister), former Deputy Minister of National Defense, former Commander of Command 559 - Truong Son Command, made great contribution to national liberation, reunification, construction and defense cause.

Comrade Dong Sy Nguyen, birth name Nguyen Huu Vu, was born on March 1, 1923 in a family with revolutionary tradition in Quang Trung commune, Quang Trach district, Quang Binh province.

He began his revolutionary career in 1938 and was admitted to the Communist Party of Vietnam in December 1939. 

During his more than 80 years of revolutionary cause, Comrade Nguyen held many important positions assigned by the Party, the State, and the Military, including member of the Politburo, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Construction, Minister of Transportation, Deputy Defense Minister, and Commander of Command 559 - Truong Son Command. He actively participated in various fields, such as military, economics, foreign affairs, among others.

During his nearly 10 years as Commander of Command 559 - Truong Son Command, he, along with his comrades, directed nine divisions and 21 regiments, overcoming all challenges, to successfully fulfill assigned tasks, making him the legendary Commander of Truong Son Command.

With his great contribution, he was honored with the Gold Star Order, the first-class Military Exploit Order, the 80-year Party membership badge, and many other noble orders and medals by the Party and State.
