As many as 17 military units stationed in the province directly supported 28 communes in building new-style rural areas. So far, seven communes among them have been recognized as new-style rural areas, while the others have attained from five to seven criteria of the program.
Additionally, the military units coordinated with local authorities to upgrade more than 113km of rural roads; dredge 14km of irrigation canals, 3,000 sq.m. of water reservoirs and 800m of irrigation dams; build 24.5km of electricity lines; construct two schools and upgrade nine classrooms; renew four communal houses; and build 172 gratitude houses for people in border areas.
The units also assisted people in developing production and reducing poverty through models such as “Hunger eradication and poverty alleviation”, “Rice paddy-fields”, “Associating Kinh people with ethnic minority households,” helping to create jobs for nearly 6,700 ethnic minority workers.
